About Susana
A Human Connection.
Space To Be Yourself.
I'm Susana Serer, a qualified psychotherapist and BACP registered counsellor. I work with adults in Harlow, online and by telephone.

My way of working is warm, relational and deeply individual. I don't believe therapy should be something that is done to you, or that there is one way of understanding why we think, feel and behave as we do.
I'm interested in your whole experience: what is happening in your life now, the experiences and relationships that have shaped you, the patterns you may find yourself repeating, and the parts of yourself you may have learned to hide, silence or push away.
I work collaboratively and will share my thoughts and observations with you, while always respecting that you are the expert on your own experience. Sometimes our work may involve making connections between past and present; at other times we might focus on something happening in your life right now, explore a relationship, sit with a difficult feeling, or think together about what needs to change.
I value honesty, curiosity and humour in the therapy room. You don't need to perform, say the right thing or be a particular version of yourself with me. Therapy can hold the serious and painful parts of being human, but there can also be warmth, laughter, discovery and moments when something suddenly makes sense.
Ultimately, my aim isn't to tell you who you should be. It's to help you understand yourself more deeply, recognise what you need, and find greater freedom to live in a way that feels authentically yours.
My integrative approach
Therapy Begins With You.
Working integratively means I draw on different therapeutic approaches to respond to the person I am working with. Your experience, needs and sense of what matters guide our work together.
There is room for the bigger questions: who you are beyond other people's expectations, what matters to you, and how you want to live. You don't need to arrive with clear answers. We can explore these questions together, at your pace.

Understanding All Parts Of Yourself.
Together, we can get to know the different parts of you, including those that seem to pull in opposite directions. Even parts you struggle with may have developed ways of protecting you or helping you get through difficult experiences.
We can approach them with curiosity, making space for understanding and choice. We may also explore how earlier experiences and relationships influence the ways you feel, respond and connect with others today.
My approach is about understanding yourself more fully, bringing those parts into connection, and finding ways to live and express yourself that feel true and meaningful to you.
Qualifications & Experience.
- First-Class Honours degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy, University of East London.
- Level 3 qualification in counselling.
- BACP Registered Member, registration number 406911.
- Enhanced DBS checked.
- Ongoing professional development, including safeguarding and Prevent training.

My clinical experience spans a number of settings. I spent three years as a volunteer counsellor with UK Counselling Network CIC and currently work as a psychotherapist with YCT Support, in private practice, and with Wild Fields Therapy in Harlow.
My experience of supporting people extends well beyond the therapy room. Over more than two decades, I have worked with children, young people, families and older adults in community and voluntary-sector settings. This has included one-to-one mentoring and group support for socially excluded young people, family support, community development, training in areas including confidence and self-esteem, work aimed at reducing loneliness and isolation among older people, and maternal mental-health advocacy.
I have also worked professionally as a writer, including writing about mental health, physical health and personal development. These different strands of my working life have given me experience of people across different ages, backgrounds and circumstances, and continue to inform the therapist I am today.
